Creative + Practice
The Secret to Success as a Creative Entrepreneur
An 8-week Online Workshop with Lisa Sonora Beam, author of The Creative Entrepreneur
The thing I’m asked most often is how I am able to make a living as an artist.
I could tell you about Paypal buttons, affiliate programs, social media techniques, pricing your work, marketing your work, branding your work, selling your work.
But the true secret to my success an artist and creative entrepreneur has to do with just one thing:
Creative Practice.
The secret is not in your products, services, packaging, messaging, pricing, and the other details we get hung up on when trying to earn a living from our art.
The secret is in having a Creative Practice.
In this online workshop, I’ll guide you step-by-step in the very Creative Practice I use that has made me financially successful as an artist.
A Creative Practice is the foundation for any type of artistic success, not just financial. But if your finances aren’t there, chances are you are also lacking clarity and forward momentum. If so, perhaps it is time to consider creative practice.
Consider this:
Struggling financially as an artist / creative entrepreneur is a symptom, not the cause.
Take a deep breath and read that again.
Struggling financially as an artist / creative entrepreneur is a symptom, not the cause.
Creative Practice gets to the root and the heart of the cause.
Don’t worry. It doesn’t have to take long, or be hard, or too intense.
I was originally trained as a therapist, and have bought a lot (hundreds, thousands?) of therapy hours myself. Long, hard, and expensive. And it never took me to the cause. That’s how I began to rely on Creative Practice more that 25 years ago. That’s how long I’ve supported myself as an artist.
Creative Practice takes us gently around the symptoms and is a compelling, delightful, energizing exploration. The cause may not reveal itself directly. We just find that we're suddenly springing into action and doing a lot of things differently. Like asking for more money. Like building a sustainable business that supports us. Like saying no, thank you, to stuff that doesn't. All of that builds into an entirely new paradigm, rooted in cause.
In fewer words: Creative Practice works.
Are you ready to do Creative Practice?
Yeah!
Here’s the whole scoop:
Logistics:
Creative + Practice begins Monday, November 7 and lasts through the week of December 24.
Yes, I know those dates fall squarely into the holiday season. I planned it that way on purpose. The time we need Creative Practice the most is when we don’t think we have time for it, or the space for it, or the concentration for it. If you’re traveling, or on vacation or have family visiting, the Creative Practice will help you find refuge, support, and all-around good vibes.
Plus, you'll have a brand new shiny Creative Practice in place before the New Year...you'll already be on your way to creating your best year yet. Creative Entrepreneurs who are successful are ahead of the pack.
The course takes place entirely online.
Every Monday, for 8 weeks, you’ll get a new lesson delivered via email.
- We’ll take this entire 8 weeks to slowly and gently ease into developing your Creative Practice.
- Each lesson builds on the next, giving you a solid foundation for a flourishing Creative Practice you can use for a lifetime.
- Each email includes lessons with prompts and creative challenges for you to use to develop your own Creative Practice.
- Since this is a visual, creative process, you'll get visuals! Each email will include a link to a video of me broadcasting from my studio. The videos will show Creative Practice techniques and provide you additional ideas and information to ponder.
- I’ll show you what I’m working on and you’ll get to see my Creative Practice in action.
What you need to participate:
- An Internet connection and email account to receive the emails.
- The ability to view videos online in your web browser.
- A blank journal or sketchbook to do the Creative Practice.
- There will be some simple art materials required if you want to try all of the techniques. Budget about $20 for your supplies. You’ll be able to find supplies online or at your local craft shop or office supply.
No prior art or writing experience is required. Absolute beginners and those who feel they are "not creative" are especially encouraged to attend!
See you there!
